I came across this video done by a West Michigan bookstore a few months ago. The message rings true for all retail stores. We will never be Amazon, Babies R Us, or Target. But we will always be a small business that loves you, cares about our community, and loves helping families get exactly what they want and need.

Onya Baby Carrier: Front Carry
I love to babywear. The first time my friend Lindsey showed me her carrier at a breastfeeding support group, I was hooked. Onya is one of my personal favorite carriers that I've used with both of my kids. Even my four year old wants to ride in this carrier, especially on days he has to come to the store with me after school.

Black Friday/Small Business Saturday 2014 Hours
EcoBuns will be CLOSED on Thanksgiving. We will also be closing early on Wednesday. We don't close often, but when we do it's with good reason.
EcoBuns is a family owned business. You've heard of Mom and Pop shops, this is a Mom and Daughters shop. Myself, along with my sister Meghan and our mom Vicki own and operate the store. That's it. Just the three of us. The three of us work at the store, unpack orders, ship orders out, update the website, balance the books, run the social media pages, create marketing material, clean the store, stay up to date on the latest and greatest products, and still manage our own family.
Typically, our family has always been flexible with our Thanksgiving schedule. We usually celebrate Thanksgiving on the weekend. That way we don't have to worry about arranging schedules and worrying about what time the inlaws are having their dinner.
This year is different. This year we started having Sunday hours at EcoBuns. We have loved to be able to offer this to our customers! However, this means that celebrating a large family gathering on a Sunday isn't going to be possible. This year, the Brancheau/Osterbaan/Berghorst family is celebrating Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving. Meghan is making a turkey at her house and hopefully sweet potato casserole (my personal favorite).
As more and more big box stores are opening up early to get in customers first, we have decided to make Thanksgiving truly a day of thanks. And boy oh boy do we have a lot to be thankful for!
THANK YOU. I cannot say it enough. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. We appreciate each and everyone of you.
So rest, enjoy your family, hold your babies. Celebrate all that there is to be thankful for. Take the day off. We will be ready for you Friday.

How Often To Change A Cloth Diaper
Babies go though a lot of diapers! When I was pregnant I was told that babies go through 12-16 diaper changes a day. At the time it didn't register to me that I would be changing diapers every 1.5 to 2 hours every day. Every single day. It doesn't matter if you are using cloth diapers or disposable diapers; you WILL be changing your baby's diaper. The average baby goes through 7,000 to 9,000 diaper changes from birth to potty training.

Preparing For Your Newborn: The First 6 Weeks
No matter where or how you give birth, your baby WILL be coming out of you. Many people put a lot of energy into childbirth classes and expectations for their birth, which is great - birth DOES matter - however, the birth is a blip in the radar of parenting. It's important to balance the information you are taking in with the skills you will need to take care of your new baby.

Amber Necklaces
Historically, Baltic Amber has been used in Europe as a natural and traditional remedy and curative for many ailments for centuries. Long ago it was considered one of the leading ‘medicines’ of its time. Baltic Amber is the most esteemed amber in the world, and the healing qualities of Baltic Amber make it unlike any other type of amber found in the world.
When baltic amber is worn on the skin, the skin’s warmth releases trace amounts of healing oils from the amber. These oils contain succinic acid and are absorbed into the skin.
Baltic Amber has some of the highest concentrations of Succinic Acid found in nature, and this is what makes it so special. Succinic Acid is a natural component of plant and animal tissues, and it's presence in the human body is beneficial in many ways. Baltic amber contains analgesic properties and helps take the edge off of many types of discomfort associated with dental issues, headaches, joint pain, etc. In many different and subtle ways, succinic acid helps boost the body's own natural healing ability and immune system.
When the human body reacts to stress, the body’s cells begin to use oxygen more quickly. Oxygen plays a central role in the intercellular creation of energy, and a lack of oxygen can result in feeling lethargic. Oxygen is alkaline-forming in the blood and maintaining a slightly alkaline blood ph helps keep us healthy. Whenever the body functions in a state of low oxygen, it is much more susceptible to illness.
Where chronic inflammation is present, disease lurks. When the body’s cells are chronically inflamed the human body’s immune system response is to increase production of free radicals. Chronic overproduction of free radicals results in inflammatory-related disease. Chronic inflammation is a common denominator of many seemingly unrelated diseases.
While wearing a piece or two of baltic amber jewelry may not cure all that may ail you, it has been a proven benefit to many!
The human body naturally produces succinic acid. The salt of succinic acid (succinate) is one of the most active substances in the processes of cellular respiration and intercellular energy creation. Succinic acid restores oxygen and energy supply to depleted cells and helps the body return to a normal, functioning state. Succinate is a raw material and a catalyst in the Krebs Cycle which is one of our main sources of energy. During the Krebs Cycle carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are metabolized for energy.
EcoBuns only carries amber that has been tested and the results prove that it is true amber from the Baltic region.

HELP: My diapers smell!
Diapers should smell clean out of the washing machine. You shouldn't smell anything (including detergent) in clean diapers.
Residue is a major contributing factor to smells in diaper. In fact, other than fit issues, this is the number issue that we help trouble shoot.
How do you know if you have a residue issue? Typical signs are stinking diapers, non absorbent inserts, leaky diaper covers, and diaper rash. There are two types of residue issues:

Sun Bleaching
I get a lot of questions about stains in cloth diapers. After all, we all know what we are using diapers for, and they can get pretty messy. With a great wash routine and proper detergent, stains are kept pretty well under control.
Stain do happen. When they do, one of the best ways to get rid of them is just to lay your diapers out in the sun for a few hours. While it may seem crazy, it works great. I FINALLY remembered to take some before and after pictures of some diapers with stains on them.

Line Drying Cloth Diapers
Here in Michigan, it can get pretty humid outside. As a busy mom, I do everything I can to cut down the dry time on my diapers. Watch this video to see some great tips!
The biggest complaint of line drying is that diapers may turn "stiff" or "crunchy." You can throw them in the dryer for a few minutes to help soften them up. You won't need to do a full dry cycle. Three to five minutes should be plenty.

If a Doula Were a Drug
I am a HUGE fan of doulas. It is so much more than a hippy thing to do at birth. Every 2 minutes a mother dies during pregnancy and/or childbirth in the United States. We need to do better. We can do better. Know your birth options. A doula can help you understand all of your options and make informed choices.

Is Washing Cloth Diapers Expensive?
How Much Does "Special Cloth Diaper Detergent" Cost?
In reality, there is no such thing as special cloth diaper detergent. As long as you are using a detergent that does not have fabric softeners, brighteners, or enzymes (such as Allen's Naturally) you can use the same detergent for your cloth diapers, baby carriers, clothes, sheets, towels, and everything else that goes into your washing machine.
The detergent that we sell at EcoBuns is just laundry detergent that doesn't have all of the craziness that most mainstream detergents have in them. I only use Allen's Naturally for all of the laundry at my house because my daughter is so sensitive to the chemicals in mainstream detergent. (Horrible hives if her clothes are washed in pretty much anything else) While the detergent we carry at EcoBuns is cloth diaper safe, it is an excellent detergent to use on all of your family's laundry.
So how does the price of Allen's Naturally compare to other brands at other stores?

It is COMPLETELY up to you.
